Due to these consistent winds, most windsurfers here are able to get away with only a few kites in their quiver, often ranging from an 8-10m and 11-13m kites (depending on personal size, skill and riding style). As the Howe Sound is a water basin full of fresh water from the Squamish River, the water temperatures throughout the summer are always on the colder side of things. Most riders wear a 4-5mm full suit with optional booties and/or gloves on particularly cold days. Throughout the summer, most are comfortable in just their wetsuit for many hours at a time.
As the winds in Squamish are thermally driven but also sometimes frontal, forecasting the wind in Squamish is not always easy. There are several great resources which can help you to make a better prediction. For best results check in with your local kite school to see what is in store for the day. During your kite lessons or chats with our staff, we can better explain to you how the wind is created so you can follow the forecasts yourself after time.
INTRO COURSE
Kiteboarding lesson costs do not include the wetsuit rental fee of only $40.
A 5mm seam sealed full wetsuit or thicker and booties are required for all kiteboarding lessons. You are welcome to bring your own, rent one or purchase a new wetsuit in our shop.

Course Details
This course is done in 2 parts.
The first part is a one hour introductory video that covers all necessary theoretical knowledge for safe independent kiteboarding. In order to enhance your first water experience, we provide this video to you ahead of time to watch as many times as you want to feel confident in the skills that you will work on in the next part of the lesson.
The remaining 3 hours of your lesson will be done on the water with one of our experienced instructors in the beautiful Howe Sound. This section is hands on and fast paced to get you on the water and possibly riding faster than you have ever imagined.
Conditions of the group course:
– Group Lessons run May 1st to September 15th yearly only.
– Lessons need a minimum 4 participants to run.
– Participants must be from 18 to 60 years of Age.
– Participants must be from 100 lbs to 260 lbs.
– Price does not include the wetsuit rental.
Only for those who never kitesurfed before

Semi-Private Kiteboarding Lessons

In our semi private lessons, pairs go out on a boat with 1 instructor and 1 kite. This option is great for people who would like to experience kiteboarding together and also people who are eager to not only experience hands on kiteboarding but also have the opportunity to learn while watching someone else develop the same skills they are working on. This lesson style also caters to people wanting a bit more of a relaxed learning style, taking photos/videos of each other and encouraging each other throughout their experience. One of the best options for a first lesson, many pairs continue learning together as they find the periodic breaks and learning style the most ideal for a steady and constant progression.

Kids Kiteboarding Lessons
We have experienced instructors and all the gear you need to get your child on the water.
Course Details
A special price for special people.
Encouraging the next generation to get into kiteboarding is what we are all about. We are happy to offer a discounted hourly rate for all kids 8- 14 years.
These lessons can be done 1 on 1 or with a friend, they include all necessary cold water and kiteboarding gear, they can be done in 2-3 hour chunks and will all be run by our highly experienced instructor team.
No restrictions apply and 1 parent can join on the boat as a spectator for free. Parents must stay on the boat for the entire time and will not be able to kite during the kids lessons
Advanced Riding Lessons
Already riding and wanting to learn some rad tricks?
Course Details
Minimum 2 hour lessons
Learning new tricks with instruction will get you further and higher, faster than you had ever imagined. We’ve got the experts to help you learn anything you could imagine from wakestyle, freeride to surf and big air! Advanced Riding Lessons valid for instructions on skills past the instructional Level 3 riding progression.
This lesson can be shared amongst others with a min duration of 30 minutes per student and can be done in 2 or 3 hour lessons. Kite equipment rental not included in cost.
UPWIND DROP
Upwind Drop
New to kiteboarding in Squamish? Want to avoid the crowds?
Offer Details
We know that it can be daunting for newcomers and beginners to tackle the crowded spit, so we are proud to offer an upwind drop taxi service to get you kiteboarding or Wingfoiling safely and away from the crowds and the spit!
Once you are certified to go out on your own, upwind drops are a great option to get more time on the water away from the congested area near the launch zone.
In order to qualify for our supervised and unsupervised drops, you must be fully independent and proficient in all the key skills, a few of which being completing self rescues in deep water, upwind body dragging and riding in all direction including upwind.
SUPERVISED DROPS:
With an instructor lead drift launch you are guaranteed to have a smooth start to your session. These upwind drops also include supervision from our instructor team while you are out enjoying the wind and water. Supervision and assistance is given in conjunction with a lesson, if you are in need of assistance, our team will come help you as quickly as possible but it is important that you have the suitable skills to stay safe and manage your equipment on your own.
UNSUPERVISED DROPS:
Unsupervised upwind drops are offered to certified members only. Certifications must be completed by Squamish Watersports Staff. This drop includes either a drop on a sandbar or a drift launch performed by our staff. At the end of your session, you are required to complete a self rescue in the water prior to your pick up. While staff may check for your possition in the sound from time to time, they will not be watching adequately to notice any need for help. They will find you at the end of their lesson to provide you pick up instructions.
EQUIPMENT
Upwind drops do not include the use of any of Squamish Watersports equipment. We do provide rentals as well as help managing your bar for an additional charge. You are responsible to ensure that your gear is in adequate condition for the experience. If your gear has a malfunction on the water, you will have the choice to either rent our equipment if it is available on the water or be packed down and wait for the next ride in. 5 line bars are not permitted for this experience.

Squamish Watersports is proud to offer the largest selection of rental wetsuits and booties in BC, we are sure to have what you are looking for.

Come enjoy the ease of choosing exactly the wetsuit and booties that you need for your chosen adventure. With over 150 suits of both 5mm and 7mm we are sure to have the right fit for you. Amongst all our typical sizes we also have female specific and youth suits as small as size 8 youth. This 4-hour cold water gear rental also includes 5mm round toe booties if you need them.

- Any cancellation or rescheduling of an experience requires 48 hours notice or is subject to forfeit. Cancellation and rescheduling requests must be made in writing to info@squamishwatersports.com
- For all touring and expedition kayak rentals as well as multi day rentals, a 7-day cancellation policy is in place.
- For all paddle rental or tour group bookings (booking 5 or more vessels), a 2-week cancellation policy is in place.
- For all group Watersports bookings (involving 3 or more instructors) a 2-week cancellation policy is in place.
- Refunds of purchases made through our website are valid up to 60 days after purchase.
- Refunds of purchases made through Square (in store Tap System) are valid up to 60 days after purchase and subject to a 5% processing fee.
- Any experience that has been booked in our system and then cancelled with proper notice is subject to a $35 administration fee prior to refund.
- Refunds requested after the 60 day period are subject to an additional 5% processing fee and a $35 administration fee.
- Experiences purchase in prior fiscal year (after Oct 31) are no longer refundable and can be fully transferrable upon request or used as store credit.
- Credit purchase amount is valid for 2 years after purchase.
- Hourly lesson/experience credit purchased is valid for the experience purchased for the current season. If used in the following season, credit can be used for its monetary amount.
- Instructor requests can be made through the booking system in the comment section. Administrators will do their best to accommodate your request but cannot guarantee at any time this instructor unless an instructor premium is paid (+$25- $35/hr based on the instructor). Even with a premium paid, scheduling flexibility may be required to accommodate the paid request.
- Experiences may be cancelled for any reason, Squamish Watersports is not responsible for any related costs incurred by the clients of the cancelled experience.
- Store purchases are valid for return only if in new (unused) condition. Return are subject to a restocking fee.
- Clients are responsible to verify all experience details through the confirmation emails and inform us of any questions 48 hours prior to their booking.
- Wetsuit rental are not included in listed experience prices. 5mm seam sealed full suit and booties are required for all wakeboarding, kiteboarding, Jetski and Wingfoiling activities.
- Lessons and rentals will begin as scheduled regardless of client arrival time. Make sure to arrive 30-40 minutes early or more for all experiences to prevent any loss in time on the water.
- Taxes are not listed in experience prices.
- 2 participants are required for all wakeboarding lesson bookings. If you are coming alone you are required to inform us of this at least 24 hours ahead of time and will need to pay for a spotter on your boat ($20/hr).
- Squamish Watersports does not take any responsibility over any personal items left at our storefront location or brought onto the boat or on your experience.
- 4hr and 8hr Paddle Rentals from October to April are available by appointment only and must be schedule around current availability.
- Boat and Jetski rentals are available from March 15th to November 15th yearly.
- 1hr and 2hr Paddle and Boat Rentals are only available from May 1st to September 15th yearly.
- All repaired equipment or consignment equipment no longer for sale will be stored for up to 2 weeks free of charge after which there will be a charge of $25/week for any additional storage.
- All repairs have a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair that was done. Proof of payment is required.
- Proof of payment is required when using an experience gift certificate.
- $50 Administration fee is required to search any archived student data from more than 2 years back. Squamish Watersports does not guarantee that any information will be found.
